The Clinical Director of Camp Attaway is Saul N. Lieberman, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist in Howard County with over twenty years of experience working with children in clinical, educational and therapeutic camp settings. He is experienced in the evaluation of intellectual, psychological and learning problems. Dr. Lieberman also has clinical expertise as an individual, group and family psychotherapist. He has consulted with schools and community agencies in the areas of program and treatment planning.

David H. Cooper, Ph.D., an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Maryland serves as Research and Training Director. Dr. Cooper also serves in a supervisory role for university interns who can receive graduate-level training at the Camp.

Drs. Lieberman and Cooper have served as directors of Camp Attaway for eight years. During the Camp Session, Drs. Lieberman and Cooper supervise staff, coordinate with partner agencies, orient parents, manage consent forms and documents, maintain the expense accounts, dispense medications, arrange for staff development and training, and generally manage all administrative aspects of Camp operations. During the "off season", Drs. Lieberman and Cooper handle contractual agreements, arrange for space and materials, manage the Camp's financial accounts, prepare reports to funders and the Camp community, follow up children's adjustment with schools and community therapists, recruit and hire staff for the subsequent year, recruit and enroll campers, and submit grant applications to potential funders.

The comprehensive program described above requires a highly trained and committed staff of counselors. In each camp group is a group leader who is an advanced graduate-level student or masters-level professional with both clinical and supervisory experience in a therapeutic/educational setting. The Program Director has responsibility for direct supervision of counselors. The staff:child ratio is at least 1:2. This ratio allows for intensive staff support for the children in all contexts of the camp experience. The counselors have at least entry-level experience and are pursuing degrees in human services-related fields.

Fully qualified and experienced staff includes teachers certified in both special and general education, advanced psychology students, professional artists and recreation specialists.
