Camp Attaway, located in Columbia MD, is an award winning non-profit that for over 27 years has provided a therapeutic summer camp for children facing complex emotional and behavioral challenges, and also provides parent education and support groups to their families. Summer 2023
Camp Attaway is an award winning three-week therapeutic summer day camp offered to children (ages 7-13) with emotional and behavioral disorders.
Camp Attaway’s mission is to nurture the mind, body, and spirit of children who are missing out on fun, friendship, success, and achievement because of difficulties managing their emotions and behaviors.
Activities include: swimming, sports, learning games, rock climbing, arts & crafts, nature and drama. A 2:1 ratio of campers to staff is maintained at all times.
IMMEDIATE OPENINGS for COUNSELORS
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in management of behavior for children especially those with serious emotional or behavioral disorders. Experience in a special education or therapeutic setting. Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams. Experience in programming daily activities for children’s groups. Bachelor’s degree preferred or advanced courses in special education, child psychology, therapeutic recreation, or equivalent. Camp experience preferred. CPR, first aid and QBS training are provided.
Job Duties: Responsible for safety, fun and well being of children. Implementing daily camp programming. Behavioral data collection. Meet daily for planning with Program Director and Clinical Director. Communicate with parents of campers as needed before, during, and after camp session. Provide input to written summaries of children’s progress reports. Complete program evaluations.
Dates of employment:
Staff Training: June 23-June 29;
Children’s Camp Program: June 30 – July 21, Monday through Friday.
Staff Wrap-up: July 24
Times: Staff hours 8am-4pm; Children’s hours 9am-3pm
Salary: Commensurate with training and experience.
